Blencoe Voting: Crowds Orderly and Polite

Crowds on election day in Blencoe, Iowa were orderly and well-mannered, with no disruptions reported at the polling site, despite waiting times of up to a minute.

Credit for the efficient management on election day goes to the dedicated staff at the polling place and to the leadership of Blencoe's Mayor-For-Life, Brad Tank.

Protests Avoided

In the run-up to election day, the community was haunted by rumors of planned demonstrations by either the local Tea Party movement or Occupy Blencoe.  Neither group, however, made an appearance at the polls.

Occupy Blencoe had to work Tuesday hauling anhydrous fertilizer tanks.  The local Tea Party appears to be in disarray, after a heated argument broke out during a recent organizing meeting.

At the Tea Party, Floppy Bunny was accused of stealing a cookie from Miss Dolly's plate.  Tempers flared, with charges leveled that the tea in the teapot was just "pretend".  During the melee, Mr. Teddy was rushed to the emergency room when he lost one of his eyes.  Luckily, medics were able to replace the eye with a similar one from an old coat.

Blencoe's police force, Rusty Collison, was dispatched only once during the day, in response to a report of a cougar at the Community Center.  When investigated, this turned out to be a misunderstanding in terminology.

Hot Drainage Race

The most hotly-contested race is for the post of Monona County Drainage Commissioner in District 42 (Northeastern Blencoe).  Running as a write-in candidate, Trippeshannendoi Yingafolden Svernisdaggen-Phaffenstein faces the only opponent registered on the ballot, Wright Yournami Bellow.

Mr. Bellow's campaign has proposed a controversial replacement for the Monona-Harrison Ditch.  Rather than running in parallel with the Little Sioux River south to the Missouri, Mr. Bellow's proposal would cut directly westward from the Little Sioux to the Missouri.  When pressed for specifics of this plan (for example,  how the ditch would cross Interstate 29) Mr. Bellow said he didn't have time to explain the entire plan and that details would be worked out after the election.
